Torture
"Songs that passionately express grief and sorrow have a special place in my heart. While I love songs of joy and encouragement, acknowledging the pain of life is equally important. Every day, we are surrounded by brave people who are literally struggling to get out of bed, waking in more pain than we ever see, and trying bravely to put on a cheerful face for those around them. Pain is part of life, and no one is immune from its touch. At one point in our lives, we will experience loss that wounds our very souls. It is during these times, we need the comfort of songs of lament.
My latest song, Torture, cowritten with my mother, Sharon Aubrey, is one of those special songs. Torture expresses the pain of losing your future or dreams. Sometimes our dreams are wrapped up in a person whom we lose. Renvek's daddy inspired some of the lyrics in this song when he said, "it's torture to feel my heart keep beating knowing his has stopped." Other times, our dreams are lost when we face a tragedy: a life changing injury, loss of a relationship, car crash, job loss, or critical medical diagnosis.
Life throws us a curve ball and changes all the plans we had for our future. Somehow we have to learn to live through it. It's difficult because we don't know how to restart. The past prevents us from moving forward. Our love doesn't stop just because our loved one or dreams died and finding hope for a new, good future is a struggle.
So if you've ever had to pick the pieces of your life and try to move forward with a broken heart, this song is for you.

Torture Lyrics
by Grace Aubrey and Sharon Aubrey
They say what doesn’t kill you, only makes you strong.
And time’s supposed to heal all wounds but what if they are wrong?
'Cuz it’s hard to keep on living, when you’ve buried all your dreams,
When life’s around you laughing but your broken heart just screams…
It’s torture to take your next breath;
to feel your heart keep beating while you’re willing it to rest,
It’s torture, Oh, it’s torture,
It’s torture to.... to take your next breath.
They say life will go on but what do they know?
How can you move forward when you have no strength to go?
'Cuz it’s a daily struggle just to get out of the bed
The sleepless nights spent crying and memories in your head.
But it’s torture to take your next breath;
to feel your heart keep beating while you’re willing it to rest,
It’s torture, Oh, it’s torture,
It’s torture to.... to take your next breath.
They tell you to be grateful for good times you’ve had
But how is that to erase all the current sad.
Cause there’s no easy answer when God seems so far away.
Yet in the night He whispers, tomorrow’s a new day.
But it’s torture to take your next breath;
to feel your heart keep beating while you’re willing it to rest,
It’s torture, Oh, it’s torture,
It’s torture to.... to take your next breath.
It’s torture;
Oh, it’s torture,
It’s torture to…. to take your next breath.
